Marcus Garvey : U.N.I.A
Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr. played a huge role in Jamaican history. He was the leader of political organizations including the African Communities League and the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), which was dedicated to the mass relocation of African- Americans back to Africa. The UNIA’s message was known as the Rastafarian movement. Rastas- people of the Rastafaria religion- considered Garvey a prophet. Garvey once said “look to Africa where a black king shall be crowned, he shall be your Redeemer.” Some people dislike the fact that he was trying to makes all blacks reunite in the mother land Ethiopia. They found that living and having the opprotunity to do something much better with their lives was worth more than their families jewels, being crown king, and marrying a wealthy man.

helping the people, especially those of my race, to know, to understand, and to
realize themselves."
